Handcross District Community Bus

The Handcross District Community Bus, operates regular timetabled services from Handcross and surrounding villages to Horsham, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath.

If you live in Balcombe, Bolney, Handcross, Lower Beeding, Pease Pottage, Plummers Plain, Slaugham, Staplefield or Warninglid, we have a service for you!

Concessions
Concessionary passes issued by any English local authority, including disabled passes, are readily accepted. The bus does not run on Bank Holidays or during Christmas week.

Facilities
The bus has sixteen passenger seats, can take a (pre-booked) wheelchair, and has heating and air conditioning. It also has a ramp to facilitate access for those who might find the step up a bit of a challenge.

Volunteers
All the people associated with the bus are volunteers. Drivers have to pass a West Sussex County Council assessment on a three-yearly basis, but anyone with a D1 Category on their licence can drive the bus. Anyone over 70 has to pass a medical.

(The bus itself is maintained by a Mercedes-Benz main dealer, so gets professional care on a regular basis.)

We are always keen to know of anyone who might want to play a part in keeping this successful operation going. Whether it be by driving the bus, joining the Committee or offering some skill that you think might be of use to us, we’d love to hear from you.
